Home Care Costs

Community CostsBasic Fees

Everyone taking up a Home Care Package is requested to pay the basic fee. The maximum basic fee is 17.5% of the single basic Age Pension.

This rate increases on 20th March and 20th September each year in line with changes to the Age Pension.

Income Tested Care Fee

Depending on income, some people may be required to contribute more to the cost of care.

The Income tested Care Fee is calculated by the Department of Human Resources based on information provided in the Aged Care Fees Income Assessment form.  The rate is revised by the government quarterly.

The client pays the required amount direct to the provider which reduces the amount of subsidy paid from the government to the provider.

There are annual and lifetime caps that apply to the Income-tested Care Fee. Once the caps have been reached, you cannot be asked to pay any more income-tested care fees.

Financial Hardship

Financial Hardship Assistance is available for clients who have difficulty affording the Home Care Package fees.

To apply for financial hardship assistance you must complete and lodge the relevant Department of Human Services Application for financial hardship assistance form.
