Welcoming Louise Stevens – GM Workplace Health & Safety
At Bethanie, we like getting to know our new team members. Earlier this month, we welcomed our new GM of Workplace Health and Safety, Louise Stevens.
What does the role of a GM Workplace Health & Safety involve?
My role will be to lead the Safety and Culture initiatives across Bethanie. I’m currently working on identifying what we have in place, any improvements that need to be made and engaging with all staff on how we can improve the system.
Where were you previously?
North Metropolitan Health Service.
This is your second stint with Bethanie. What were you doing in your first stint at Bethanie?
I first started with Bethanie in late 2007 as the first ever in-house injury management consultant. Prior to this, they had outsourced the role.
What do you love about working at Bethanie?
One of the big things that drew me back to me Bethanie was because I previously worked with Jo (Chief People, Culture & Brand) and we worked well together. I could see that her passion was organisational culture, and you can’t create a positive safety culture without positive organisational culture.
There was a consistent theme with the business on improvement culture and that was the big drawcard for me. The work is also meaningful – we work to provide safe, quality care to our clients, residents and customers.
What will you be doing to implement the Safety culture at Bethanie?
A big focus would be bedding down some of the basic OHS systems, supporting managers, following up on implementing and promoting positive safety culture. I also want to encourage our staff to report hazards and incidents as soon as possible.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have three children and enjoying spending time with them. I also enjoy going to the gym, reading and having a glass of wine every now and again.
