Beyond the Teaching Nursing Home

Bethanie is pleased to be working in collaboration with the University of Western Australia on a very valuable project.

Bethanie has provided a once unoccupied space in the Joondanna Nursing Home which has been refurbished to create a clinical learning environment, which will help in the education and training of health professional students, including medicine and nursing students.

The project is being led by UWA’s Nursing at the School of Population Health (within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences). Other project partners include Central Institute of Technology and West Coast Institute of Training. The project is supported by the Aged Care Association Australia WA.

Learning at Bethanie

The setup at Joondanna provides UWA students with:

  • A 12 bed ward for simulated clinical training activities (incorporating an observation room),
  • Seminar and training room facilities,
  • A community home (simulated home environment) providing a specific learning environment to teach students how to attend to the health care needs of clients in community settings,
  • An IT hub housing ipads for student use and access to electronic health records.
