What is a Retirement Village?

Retirement Villages Explained

A Retirement Village provides accommodation, lifestyle amenities and services to people over the age of 55 years old who are able to live independently.
Whilst Bethanie Retirement Villages support ageing in place with access to a 24 hour monitored emergency call system in each villa or apartment, they are not designed for seniors who require continual care.

In Western Australia, Retirement Villages operate under the Retirement Villages Act which was introduced to provide peace of mind for seniors moving into a Retirement Village. The Act prescribes the information a Retirement Village provider, like Bethanie must provide during the buying process, the fees that can be charged while living in the village and the minimum standards that need to be observed. All other forms of retirement living do not fall under the Act.
