Annual Vintage Car Visit A Hit

As a special Father’s Day treat Bethanie Beachside, Perth’s most northern Aged Care Home recently had a visit from two old classic cars. A 1937 Austin Seven Ruby Tourer, owned by Kim and Kaye Reid and a 1935 Austin Seven Sports owned by Hugh Fryer was on show for the morning, much to the delight of many of the residents.

Classic cars have been visiting the Aged Care Home for the last five years, thanks to the generosity of Hugh Fryer. Hugh is a member of the Austin Seven Club of WA and he has five cars in total – he’s been driving them since he was 16 years of age.

Hugh lives in Hillarys and travels up to Bethanie Beachside every year. For the past two years he has also invited Jim and Kaye Reid of Ascot, also Club members, to bring their car too.

Residents love to sit in the cars, take a look under the hood, grab a photo to share with their families and just have a general chin wag about their past together.

Bethanie Beachside Occupational Therapist Emily Baker says,

“It’s certainly a day some of the men look forward to. Many of our residents love older classic cars and used to own some of their own back in their day so it’s a great time for them to reminisce, sparking memories and igniting new conversations.”

Bethanie Beachside offers a continuum of care with an Aged Care Home and Retirement Village on the same site. For more information or to put your name on a waitlist for Bethanie Beachside contact 131 151
