Meet Bethanie Geneff Chaplain, Rachel Power.
Chat with a Chaplain
Let us introduce Rachel Power. One of our lovely Chaplains at Bethanie Geneff.
So, Rachel, tell us about yourself…
I am married to a wonderful man called Brendan and we have three daughters together. I was previously a Speech Pathologist working mostly within the disability sector. Later, I worked as a children's Pastor in my local church and became interested in chaplaincy during that time. I began postgraduate studies in theology in 2018 and continue to study part-time. I joined the Bethanie chaplaincy team in June 2020.
What made you decide to work with Bethanie?
I became interested in chaplaincy whilst working at my local church. An opportunity to discuss chaplaincy with Bethanie's Mission Manager, David van Leen, helped me make the choice to apply for a Chaplaincy Internship with Bethanie.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Being a Chaplain gives me the privilege to hear other people's life stories and experiences and journey with them as these stories continue to unfold.
What is your favourite piece of advice?
Be kind to yourself.
Is there a particular story or experience that has made you realise the impact of your work?
I have been moved by the gratitude people express when I visit them in a time of need. The value of actively listening, sharing and spending time with people cannot be underestimated.
