A Shining Example

Having spent some 30 years as a volunteer at Bethanie’s Social Centres, John Riordan has conservatively called over 2,800 bingo games, taken 2,500 bus trips and set around 8,000 tables for events.

“I remember coming to the West Perth centre in 1999 from Northbridge and some of those original clients lived through the depression and WWII,” said John.

“Some of their children are clients today.”

Dedicating around ten hours per week at the centre has been a commitment John has resolutely stuck to over the years.

“Our organisation sprung from volunteers, and they have continued to be integral to the fabric of the organisation,” said Manager Volunteer Services Tim Galloway on presenting John with a certificate.

“We couldn’t do it without them and for John to have given us over 15,000 hours of service is incredible.”

West Perth Social Centre Coordinator Anja Danner addressed John with the words, “giving your heart and soul to the centre, by making friendships and being you”.

“Volunteers bring so much joy and laughter,” added Tim.  “They are shining examples of what it means to give back to your community.”

Congratulations John, and thank you.
