Belonging is often felt in the little moments, like a familiar wave, a quiet check-in, or a team that notices when someone needs support.
At Bethanie, those moments matter. They shape how people feel at work, how teams care for one another, and how residents, clients and families experience care every day.
For Roulé Jones, Bethanie Chief Executive Officer, belonging is deeply connected to Bethanie’s history, where a church community group came together to create affordable aged care accommodation for their older neighbors.
“Bethanie is a modern legacy of community driven action. Our heritage is shaped by a community who belonged to each other, and together they made belonging a reality for older Australians,” she said.
At Bethanie, we understand that when our people feel connected, valued, supported and able to bring their authentic self to work, they are better placed to offer that same sense of safety and connection to the people they care for. As Aged Care Facility Manager Mel Stanley reflected, “the more our staff feel like they belong, the more relaxed they are, and the better care that our residents experience.” It is a simple but powerful link: staff experience and resident experience are connected.
Bethanie’s culture of belonging is not created through one program or one message. It is built in the everyday: in the way staff interact, the way people recognise each other, and the way teams come together to mark milestones, cultural events and moments that matter.
These moments may seem small, but together they create something lasting, a place where people can feel part of something meaningful. Over time, those moments become culture, community and, for many, a place that feels like home.
