Bethanie Illawong Keep Busy Making Fabric Bags
Bethanie Illawong Aged Care Facility in Hamilton Hill has been keeping busy on Friday afternoons, cutting, sewing and stitching fabric shopping bags, in preparation for the removal of plastic bags.
Bethanie Illawong Facility Manager, Barbara Walton, came up with the idea a few weeks ago as she had a heap of spare fabric sitting at home.
“About two years ago someone was throwing away rolls of fabric, so I rescued them. Since then they have been gathering dust, so I thought what better use than getting the residents involved in making their own shopping bags.”
Staff are helping the 39 local residents with this craft activity, which sees them come together for a sew, a cut, a chat and a cuppa.
