Welcome to our Social Centres!

Bethanie would like to invite all senior West Australians of all abilities to come and join our Social Centres.

Many of you will be familiar with what used to be Bethanie’s living well centres. These are social centres which provide senior Australians who are over the age of 55 with valuable social and therapy wellbeing services, with a focus on quality of life.

We have discovered that many people search for the term “social centres”, when looking for social and engaging, centre-based activities for their loved ones to attend. We will now be referring to our living well centres as social centres.

Social Centres is a term with which people – including referrers of our services – are most familiar and which we believe, more accurately reflects the purpose and mission of the centres. That purpose is to provide and maintain valuable social connections for those that attend which also allows attendees to stay involved in their community.

Our programs have not changed and are designed with customer input. Bethanie’s social centres welcome people from all cultures and backgrounds with a variety of interests and abilities.

One of our social centre coordinators, Anja Danner, says she loves working at the centre because of the diverse seniors that she gets to interact with each day.

“I love facilitating them with opportunities to socialise and engage in community life and am guided by their interests, abilities and choices. It is wonderful to see happy faces coming in and hearing laughter and good stories throughout, whether when coming back from outings or staying in the centre,” Anja said.

Our hope to current and future families who use our social centres is that they know their loved ones are in capable, loving hands. We know the role of carer is demanding, and any respite should be guilt-free.

“We aim to create an atmosphere where customers feel that they have a say in what’s happening in the centre, where we go, what we do – that they own the space like a second home and become part of a family and friends group,” Anja said.
