A new chapter in care for older Australians

Publish date: 1 November 2025

From today, the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards officially come into effect. It’s a milestone that reaffirms Australia’s commitment to safe, high-quality, person-centred care for older people.

For Bethanie, the strengthened Standards are a continuation of the path we’ve been walking for more than 70 years. And they’re a reflection of the way we positively change the way Australians experience ageing.

We welcome the strengthened Standards not as a turning point, but as an opportunity to lead through example, to show what care looks like in practice, and to keep improving the way we support older Australians to live their most meaningful lives.

Care that goes beyond compliance

The strengthened Standards focus on dignity, respect, and partnership – principles that have always guided the Bethanie way. They call on all aged care providers to deliver care that recognises each person’s rights, choices, and individuality.

At Bethanie, that means supporting people to live their own way, not just safely but meaningfully. Whether that’s staying active in the community, enjoying a favourite hobby, or sharing a laugh with friends over coffee, we find ways for everyone to find joy in every day.

And we see, time and again, how the small things make a big difference: a familiar childhood meal, a reassuring conversation, and feeling a sense of belonging to a community. These moments are what transform good care into genuine connection.

Grounded in Mission, proven through action

Bethanie’s spirit of care and connection has deep roots. Our foundation in the Churches of Christ WA continues to guide us to serve those we care for with compassion and purpose.

Across our homes, villages, and community services, this commitment is lived out by teams who listen with humility, care with understanding, and create special moments that bring our Mission to life in practical ways. It’s this everyday dedication that gives meaning to the work we do.

Building thriving communities

And while quality care is essential, thriving communities are what make a lasting impression. Bethanie has always believed that ageing positively goes beyond clinical excellence - it’s about trusted relationships, a sense of belonging, and heartfelt connections, all contributing to people feeling seen, heard, and understood.

We take time to learn what matters most to each person in our care and help them stay close to what gives their life purpose and meaning. Whether that’s faith, friendship, family, or community involvement, we celebrate individuality and nurture those connections every day.

As we move into this new chapter of reform, we do so with confidence, readiness, and a shared sense of purpose that unites our industry. Because at Bethanie, meeting today’s Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards is who we’ve always been.
