Bethanie

Here comes the bride!

As a Chaplain, Anne plays an important role in the spiritual wellbeing of the Bethanie community. She has had such an impact on the community at Bethanie Waters, so it was no surprise that the residents showed interest in being part of her wedding day.

“You care for these people and get to know them on such a personal level. They just become an extension of your family. I know they feel the same way as well,” Anne said.

Anne and her new husband, Allen, met through a Christian website called Christian Connect back in March 2020. Their love story started just as Perth went into lockdown due to COVID-19. They had their first date down at the Rockingham Foreshore.

“For Allen it was love at first sight, I was a bit more cautious. But we must have had a good time because that first date lasted seven hours,” Anne said.

“I could see we were getting very close, so one day we were cooking a nice dinner together and I asked her to marry me,” Allen said.

The couple got married on the 14 November 2020 on Penguin Island, surrounded by close friends, family and the beautiful wildlife on the island.

“We ended up being just so lucky. The day of the wedding was the same day that Western Australia opened its borders to the Northern Territory, so my son and his fiancé could attend. They touched down just an hour and 20 minutes before the wedding,” Anne said.

However, for Anne, the only thing missing was the community at Bethanie Waters.

“I wanted to be able to do something to involve the residents. Allen is very understanding of my work and that’s one of the things I love about him,” she said.

When Anne told her extended family at Bethanie Waters that they would re-enact the wedding at the aged care home, the residents were absolutely thrilled.

“They were so excited about it! They were just so happy and told her (Anne) it was the most beautiful wedding,” Allen said.

Anne even asked one of the residents to be her bridesmaids for the re-enactment which was followed by high tea.
